Ultras video – Eintracht Frankfurt

Posted June 20, 2007 in TIfo Video

The Bundesliga as idyllic soccer fan heaven is probably an over-covered angle by now: cheap stands, big crowds, good beer, etc. etc. But it’s worth wondering if Germany isn’t a bad model for MLS: inexpensive and wild enough to please the fans, well-attended and orderly enough (maybe too much for a lot of current supporters’ group types) to please management. Eintracht Frankfurt’s supporters aren’t legendary or even especially renowned, but as the video shows, any committed band of supporters can still rock a stadium with minimal prop comedy. Especially if they’re singing the theme to Pippi Longstockings (seriously).

  1. The groups of fans who organize this are called “ultras”, and most teams have them. The Frankfurt Ultras are the largest (or one of the largest) in Germany. They may not be “legendary” in the USA, as most people have only heard of Bayern because of the championships won…they are certainly respected and “reknowned” in Germany.
